Introduction:
Savoy House Lighting is proud to be leading the way for the residential lighting industry in the 21st century. With a rich, prosperous, Atlanta-born and family-owned history, the company has grown immensely over the past 46 years, becoming stronger and stronger with each passing date.

The History:
In the 1930’s a young man plowing a field in South Georgia saw a train coming up a steep grade in the distance and thought to himself that anything would be better then plowing this field in the hot Georgia sun. So he jumped onto that train wearing only the clothes he had on, some change in his pocket, and a lot of hope. Upon arriving in East Point, GA, he walked across the tracks and into the Main Street of town. There, he saw a grocery store and a bakery. The last few pennies he had went towards the purchase of a loaf of bread and some cookies from these two establishments. With only hope left, the young man began seeking his fortune in Atlanta.

Years later, the young man and his son established a company in these same buildings. The young man was Robert E. Lee. The son was Fred J. Lee. The company was named Progressive Lighting.

At the time of the founding of the enterprise in 1965, Robert E. Lee and Fred J. Lee were homebuilders. Building in these expansionary times, they noticed that the city’s lighting showrooms provided little or no selection and had problems with supplying products to the job-site.

The Lees saw an opportunity. They established a lighting showroom in that same grocery store on Main Street in East Point, GA that Mr. Robert E. Lee first walked into so many years before. Homemade shelving for the warehouse, a small showroom, and a counter in the back of the building to sell electrical supplies characterized the original store. Started on the philosophy of having a large selection of merchandise that was adequately stocked, the firm was an immediate success.

It was during this time period that Mr. Robert E. Lee decided to take a bold step into the importation of lighting fixtures. When the fixtures arrived at the East Point store they were assembled in a small room at the back of the store.

The experiment was so successful that the old bakery next door was leased to be used as a small assembly plant and warehouse. These chandeliers were produced into a catalog and a network of sales representatives was established. The line of lighting fixtures was sold throughout the Southeast and eventually Nationwide. Savoy House Lighting, Inc. was born.

Today:
Savoy House Lighting keeps a finger on the pulse of the lighting and home fashion industry by way of our designers. They continually bring fresh and exciting new lighting designs to us for the development and manufacturing.

Savoy House has a 50,000 square foot permanent lighting and ceiling fan showroom in the Dallas Market Center, the largest wholesale merchandise resource available in the lighting industry.

This proud heritage and rich diversity are the winning combination for continued growth and success for Savoy House Lighting.
